2014 SV Riesling “D” – Library Release

$32.00

14 in stock

Another one from the Cellar that is just too good not to share.

We love Riesling as a variety for its purity, elegance and age ability and believe that our old vines (mostly planted in late 70s) combined with the growing conditions here in Marlborough are capable of making world class Riesling.  Our SV (SV5182) Riesling ‘D’ is a dry style which has excellent fruit weight and concentration to balance the lingering mineral acid structure. This wine is finely structured with great length of flavour.

Tasting Notes

2014 was an exceptional vintage in Marlborough, characterised by a warmer than average summer, and very balanced wines with lovely purity and ripe acidity. This has helped this Riesling age with grace and elegance to become an absolute winner. Back when we released this wine we thought 6-8 years cellaring was the ideal but after tasting recently we know it’s still got plenty of life left and has just become better and better. If you love well cellared Riesling this is the one for you.

When the team (and a few ring in’s) recently tasted the 2014 Riesling D it received an average score of 94 Points. Comments included…. gorgeous lifted aromas of lemon, and ripe kaffir lime; fabulous fine backbone of ripe juicy acidity; stunning length; and the best one “oh that’s just bloody delicious”!

And back 11 FEB 2015 Bob Campbell MW had this to say – Dry, but not searingly dry, Riesling with aromatic floral/rose petal and citrus/lime flavours. Very pure wine with an ethereal texture and moderately lengthy finish. Lemon-like acidity with a subtle mineral influence. 92 Points

and from our wonderful (and forever missed) friend Raymond Chan ☆☆☆☆☆ Five Stars 19/20
Bright, pale straw-yellow colour, very light on rim. This has a refined and softly full nose with concentrated aromas of lifted yellow florals and citrus fruits interwoven with subtle nuances of honeysuckle and thirst-quenching minerals. This has presence and intensity allied to finesse. Dry to taste and light-medium bodied, a tight, mouthwatering core of florals, limes and minerals is the feature on palate. The flavours show great purity and focus, enlivened by soft acidity and underlined by refined phenolic textures. This has excellent fruit extract and the wine flows with vitality and drive, leading to a vibrant and long, lingering finish with floral, citrus and quinine-like elements. This is a concentrated, pure and focused dry Riesling with vitality and thirst-quenching minerality. Fruit from vines planted in 1979, hand-picked and sorted,  and cool-fermented in stainless-steel.
