The 2025 Single Vineyard Rosé, is a fabulous follow on from our 2023 SV Rose which was named New Zealand Rose Wine of the Year

We’ve always loved Rosé and have enjoyed consuming them for many years so this was a natural addition to the TWR family back in 2015 with our first release. We have spent 10 years perfecting our techniques and also working out which parts of the vineyard were best suited for it. We wanted to make a Rosé that reflected a classic, dry, savoury style and so that is based on Pinot Noir with a sneaky bit of x factor from the Syrah component. This is not a side hustle off our red wine production –  but we have instead identified certain clones and vineyard areas that really suit Rosé,  and those sections of our vineyard are purpose grown specifically for it.

Our favourite Rosés are lighter in colour and deliciously dry, with lifted florals and summer fruits, complemented by savoury undertones and ripe acid, so our aim was to replicate these qualities.  In keeping with our house style here at Te Whare Ra we also wanted to make a wine that showed elegance and purity of fruit but one that also was fleshy and juicy with great texture and complexity.

TASTING NOTES

The 2025 SV Rosé, is a fabulous follow on from our recent releases which have been consistently ranked as one of the top Roses made in NZ.

We have put so much care and focus and love into our Rosé, over the last 10 years and we are so proud of it!

Gorgeous lifted aromas of spring strawberry, and ripe raspberry and blueberry with pretty floral notes and hints of savoury follow onto flavours of fresh summer berries & blue fruits plus hints of mulberry and spices. The fruit and floral notes are balanced by some very attractive savoury complexity and ripe juicy acid. This Rosé is purposely made in a dry savoury style, which combines vibrant fruit with texture and weight resulting in a delicious refreshing combination.

We feel this Rosé is the perfect pairing for a spring lunch in the sunshine, a summer picnic, or just a chilled glass with great conversation!

Delicious, fresh and taut, a youthful expression with aromas and flavours of peaches and pink grapefruit, cherry flesh and cold river stones. A dry wine with a fine tannin presence, plenty of acidity and persistent light red fruit and cherry flavours. Best drinking from Spring 2026 and over the next 18 to 24 months. Excellent

95 points – Stephen Wong MW – The Real Review & Top Marlborough Rose for the 3rd year running (2022, 2023 & 2024)

Light coral pink. This is a very concentrated, intense rosé with masses of fruit ranging from tangy raspberry and blood orange to deep notes of blackberry and blueberry, infused with licorice, anise and earthy spice. Despite its concentration and power, the palate is surprisingly lively and elegant, before slowly yielding to the submerged bed of peppery grip on the finish. Simply fantastic, it is clearly structured without being serious or austere. It will age if given time in bottle but is equally enjoyable now with food.  Drink 2025–2028

It’s instantly appealing and elegantly scented on the nose with wild strawberry, Gala apple, summer peach, and floral nuances, leading to a finely flowing palate that’s juicy and crisp. Delightfully composed and expressed, finishing long and refreshing. Certified organic. At its best: now to 2027.

The 2024 Single Vineyard 5182 Rosé offers us fresh garden rose, pomegranate, raspberry seed and a hint of watermelon clarity. The wine has a fine and savory phenolic structure, which draws the wine out through the long finish. This rosé is a blend of 64% Pinot Noir and 36% Syrah. It’s certified organic and farmed biodynamically.

Rosé Wine of the Year New Zealand 2025 – The Real Review Stephen Wong MW – 95 points
Another pinot noir rosé which avoids the usual trappings of the style is the jaw-droppingly good Te Whare Ra Single Vineyard 5182 Rosé 2023. This is now two years old, but showing no signs of fading. In fact, it has only gotten better with age. Cresting over into gold territory with a whopping 95 points, this is one of the absolute top scoring rosé wines I have tried as the #2 of 36 2023 Rosés from Marlborough Top Rank award indicates.
Here, Anna and Jason Flowerday have invoked the power of syrah (also from their home vineyard in Renwick) and fermentation until dry, to rein in the inherent fruitiness of pinot noir, giving it a floral yet saline finesse. Time in bottle has allowed the wine to unfurl with even more detail and smoothed out the balance along its acid/phenolic axis.
