Our passion for making and drinking Riesling is based partly on the wide variety of styles that this variety is capable of producing. That array of styles is a double edged sword for some, but we feel that by labeling our Rieslings true to type we can encourage the Riesling revolution. We are enamored by the general characteristics of all great Riesling wines: purity, elegance and age-ability, and feel that the growing conditions here in Marlborough allow Riesling to produce at its best – it really is an unsung hero variety for this part of the world. The high sunshine hours mean that we are able to achieve ripe, fruit concentration and the cooler night time temperatures mean that we retain the natural acidity that is the hallmark of this noble variety.
We had always been inspired by the great wines of the Mosel and when tasting the fruit from this block at Te Whare Ra, we thought that the flavour profile and acid balance, lent itself well to this medium-dry style of Riesling. We love the knife edge of tension in this style of wine – the perfect balance between the initial sweetness of the fruit and the lingering, chalky acidity.
This Riesling ‘M’ is designed from the “vineyard-in” in a medium-dry style and is dangerously drinkable. Lifted aromas of mandarin, pink grapefruit, and white peach follow onto vibrant, ripe flavours of the same with juicy lime with underlying slatey mineral notes. This wine is fine and soft with excellent fruit weight and concentration to counterbalance the mouth-watering acidity.

Fabulously elegant and sunny-sweet with white flesh nectarine, orange peel, lemon/lime zest and delicate floral notes on the nose, followed by a succulent palate offering fleshy texture and subtle sweetness backed by bright acidity. This is dazzling, delicious and lingering with subliminal saline notes, making it immensely appealing.

Aromas of apple and lime-flower, lime and white flowers, there’s a fine lees and mineral quality adding depth and complexity. Off-dry as the wine touches the palate with an immediately contrasting acid line then flavours of citrus and flowers, mineral and apple. Totally delicious, fresh and long. Perfect aperitif example and excellent with fresh seafood. best drinking from 2022 through 2032+.

Medium Riesling showing the benefit of relatively old vines with impressive concentration and deliciously juicy acidity. The wine achieves a mouth-watering sweet-and-sour tension. Lime, oyster-shell and white wildflower characters. 25 JAN 2022
Reviews for the 2020 vintage
Bob Campbell MW – 95 Points – 2020 Vintage
Delicious Riesling with exquisite acid-and-sweet tension, plenty of power and mouth-watering acidity. Made in a medium-dry style (rather than medium or ‘M’) with lime zest, white flower, oyster-shell and mineral flavours. Drink 2020–2029

Stunning aromatics with wild white flowers and blossoms, mandarin and lime flower, lemon peel, apple and citrus pith. There are lifted spice layers and core of minerality. All of these ideas come alive on the palate with a seamless core of pure fruit flavours, minerals, flowers and exotic charm. Off-dry in style the acidity more than contrasts the initial sweetness and adds to a refreshing lengthy finish. this is what Riesling is all about. Fantastic example ready to enjoy from today and through 2030+.

Very fresh, pure and gently flinty lemon and some spicy notes, too. The palate has a gently off-dry feel with bright, crisp acidity and sweet pear, apple and light pastry flavours that hold neatly. From biodynamically grown grapes.
