2017 SV5182 Pinot Noir

$75.00

17 in stock

All winemakers go a bit nuts about Pinot Noir because it is challenging to grow and make and very unforgiving of mistakes.   We love the flavour spectrum of Marlborough Pinot Noir from red fruits to black and from complex savoury notes to spice and back again. It has an ability to give us vibrant fruit on the palate combined with ripe supple, silky tannins and great structure and length.

This SV5182 Pinot Noir is a special selection of the best parcels from the eight different clones currently producing on our home vineyard. Year after year as the vines mature, we are seeing an increasing depth and complexity in the wines and we have chosen to showcase that with our SV Pinot Noir.  This is our fourth release of a Pinot Noir under this SV5182 label designation. We feel that this release showcases the best expression of our site here at Te Whare Ra, and the stellar quality of the 2017 vintage for Pinot Noir in Marlborough. Production of only 65 cases.

Tasting Notes

This Pinot Noir exhibits a gorgeous perfumed fragrance of ripe raspberry, and florals with hints of mocha, violets, spice and some complex savoury undertones. The finely textured, silky tannins combine with vibrant flavours of ripe strawberries and omega plums. The palate carries onto more savoury and complex flavours and finishes with a lingering persistence of fruit, fine tannin and well integrated oak. Bottled un-fined and with minimal filtration

Combining splendid ripe fruit notes with charming savoury nuances, it’s beautifully fragrant on the nose showing dark cherry, game, warm mushroom and toasted nut aromas. The gracefully expressed palate displays outstanding concentration and richness with finesse and elegance. Beautifully layered and harmonious with impressive line and length. Certified organic. At its best: now to 2032.

Cameron Douglas MS – 96 Points
Complex, pure, varietal, savoury, fruity and mineral. All the boxes ticked for an enticing bouquet. Equally delicious on the palate with flavours dark red berries, preserved cherry, toasty baking spices and a core of minerality. Flavours of old roses and red berries, barrel spice and flinty, leesy qualities. Youthful still and will continue to develop over the next 3 to 5 years (or more). Dry, lengthy, complex and delicious. Best drinking from 2025 through 2035.

From their meticulously tended vineyard in Renwick, this splendidly appealing pinot shows ripe cherry, red plum, clove, almond and subtle mushroom notes, followed by a silky-smooth palate delivering beautifully layered mouthfeel and fine polished tannins. Soothing and satisfying with gorgeous complexity and elegant structure. Certified organic. At its best: now to 2030+

Complex and seductive bouquet with aromas of integration, red berries, a deeply mineral and earthy layer and bottle development. Fresh, complex and primary. On the palate – fantastic! Still youthful with primary fruits of cherry and black currant then flowers and minerality, spices of oak and and flowers. There’s tension and poise from tannins and acidity tempered by a core of fruit then flavours of wood spices and a sense of place. Delicious, youthful and still developing. Best drinking from purchase and through 2030+. Be quick!

Entrancing depth on the nose, this has very spicy and complex style with red and dark cherries, forest wood, fresh-chopped herbs and violets. The palate has a bright and supple feel with layered, long and smoothly rendered tannins that carry fresh red-cherry flavours. Long, fresh and even. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink or hold
